Walker Buehler ejected from game after profanity-laced tirade at umpire

Walker Buehler didn’t last 3 innings before being thrown out of the Boston Red Sox’ game against the New York Mets on Tuesday.

Buehler, the former Vanderbilt pitcher, faced Mets slugger Juan Soto in the top of the 3rd of a scoreless game with one on and one out. As you can see below, he took exception to a pitch that he felt was over the plate but was instead called a ball:

By rule, you can’t argue balls and strikes, and you certainly can’t swear at an umpire if you don’t want to get ejected. But Buehler said a few too many choice words before being sent to the showers early.

Buehler, a 2-time World Series champion with the Dodgers before signing with the Red Sox in the offseason, has had a bit of a shaky start to the year, but he entered Tuesday with a 4-1 record and a 4.28 ERA.

In 2014, Buehler was part of the Vanderbilt team that won the College World Series, staying with the program for 3 seasons before entering the professional ranks. He was a 1st-round pick by the Dodgers in 2015, a team he called home until joining the Red Sox in the offseason.i
