British actor Michael McStay has died at the age of 92.
The Daily Mail reported that a representative confirmed that McStay, who had worked in the entertainment industry for over six decades, died on May 20. In the statement to the publication, the representative shared, "It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Michael McStay, an actor of the highest standing and talented writer, whose career across stage, screen and radio spanned over six decades."
McStay was married to actress Jennifer Clulow, the mother of his sons, Darius and Paul.
McStay acted in several popular series, including Doctor Who, EastEnders, and Coronation Street, throughout his career. During a May 2024 interview on theDoctor Who: Toby Hadoke’s Time Travels podcast, McStay discussed his role of the ill-fated character, Derek Moberley, in the 13th season of Doctor Who. He said he wished his character wasn't killed off so soon because he would have liked to stay on the series longer. In addition, he said he enjoyed Doctor Who fans.
"The sort of fans that you get on a show like Doctor Who are your friends. They want to like you, they want to like the show. It's a great feeling. It's a great bunch of people to be a part of in a way," said the actor on the podcast interview.
While recording the podcast episode, McStay noted that he did not study theater in college before pursuing acting as a career.
"I learned on the job. And that was not easy, of course," said McStay.
In addition, he shared how he managed to stay in the entertainment industry for as long as he did.
"You have to want to do it. I've always wanted to do it. And I had some good friends along the way that helped me," said McStay during the podcast interview.
