Are EU kidding?
LABOUR are taking us for fools over their Brexit betrayal.
Just a few weeks ago Keir Starmer insisted there were “no plans” for a Youth Mobility scheme.
He then signed a deal to allow tens of thousands of under-35 EU migrants to work here.
Now Brussels wants the “youths” to be allowed to bring their dependents to Britain too.
Industry minister Sarah Jones claims the Government won’t allow this. But why, given past form, should anybody believe her?
The PM’s paltry deal will net us just a paltry 0.3 per cent of extra growth by 2040.
Yet we still don’t know what the price will be to join pacts on energy and defence.
The Government is still not being open about the billions this is likely to cost UK tax-payers.
Labour’s dishonesty on migrants and money will only harden the view of voters that politicians are taking them for mugs.
Cross breed
ILLEGAL immigrants crossing the Channel by dinghy is nothing new. So far this year, it’s more than 12,000 . . . and counting.
But, in a sign our borders have now become an utter fiasco, today we reveal how a DOG has made the perilous journey for the first time.
Presumably the French border guards just sat back and watched, while the German Shepherd boarded with his asylum-seeking master.
But this farce is a sign of just how brazen both the smugglers and the migrants have become.
The dog will now spend up to four months in quarantine at public expense.
This can be added to the £5.5million per day we are spending on housing the migrants themselves in hotels.
There may yet be some good to come from this sorry tale, though.
Border Force is investigating if — once the dog has been given the all-clear for rabies and other diseases — he could join their ranks, on patrol.
Perhaps they could send him back to France and put him to task stopping the boats – not hopping aboard.
Fails of justice
THERE is no doubt that the social media messages posted by childminder Lucy Connolly during last summer’s riots were reprehensible. She recognised this and quickly deleted them.
But the 31-month sentence she was handed was always at the extreme end of punishment.
In comparison, Palestinian Abu Wadee — who arrived illegally on a small boat and demanded the murder of Jews — got just a nine-month sentence.
It’s no wonder that ordinary folk increasingly question the fairness of our justice system.
