There has been a breakthrough in Sir Keir Starmer’s talks to secure a new reset deal with the EU.

The Government’s bid to secure a new deal with the EU has gone “down to the wire” with talks continuing overnight ahead of a major summit with the bloc.

But despite the developments overnight there are still steps to take over the post-Brexit reset, it is understood.

Stumbling blocks overcome in EU talks breakthrough

Good morning, and welcome to The i Paper’s live blog. There has been a breakthrough overnight in the Government’s push to seal a reset deal with the EU.

Ministers had appeared confident of securing an agreement, with Number 10 saying on Saturday the Prime Minister would “strike a deal” at the first UK-EU summit on Monday.

Government sources said late on Sunday: “Negotiations are going down to the wire and a deal is not yet done”.

But it now appears that stumbling blocks over issues such as fishing rights have been resolved.

Sir Keir Starmer is hosting a summit with the EU today in a bid too “reset” relations, with topics such as defence, trade, fishing, and a youth mobility scheme on the agenda.
