Hamilton finds ‘synergy with Ferrari after remarkable P4 in Imola

Lewis Hamilton left Imola with more than just points – he departed Emilia Romagna with renewed belief in Ferrari’s potential and, for the first time this season, a genuine sense of harmony with his SF-25.

After starting 12th on the grid following a difficult qualifying session, Hamilton charged through the field to finish fourth, delivering a spirited drive that thrilled the Italian crowd and gave Ferrari a much-needed lift.

The seven-time world champion’s gritty performance was easily his most convincing display since joining the Scuderia.

Gaining places through a well-executed early strategy and showing strong race pace in the latter stages, Hamilton overtook teammate Charles Leclerc and Williams’ Alexander Albon to seal a P4 finish.

    A Turning Point

It was not just the result, but the manner of it – attacking, confident, and smooth – that marked a turning point for the Briton.

“To drive in front of the Tifosi today and this weekend has been the highlight of the year so far,” he said afterward, speaking to F1’s official channel.

“There’s a lot of pressure on us as a team with struggling through the year so far with the car and particularly to have such a strong race and to be moving forward, making ground. It was such a great feeling."

It was a race that finally brought the feeling he had been chasing since joining Ferrari.

“For me, I haven’t had a race – I don’t remember the last time I had a race like that where you were moving forwards.

“I’m sure there was one maybe last year – but this one is different obviously because I’m in the red car. I haven’t done that yet.

“So to finally have that connection, that synergy with the car today and progressing was a really great feeling.”

    Encouragement After Qualifying Disappointment

Ferrari’s weekend had looked bleak after both Hamilton and Leclerc failed to advance past Q1 on Saturday, compounding a series of underwhelming qualifying performances this season.

But on Sunday, the team reversed its fortunes with a car that came alive in race trim and a strategy team that executed to perfection.

“I don’t want to jinx it,” Hamilton cautioned. “For sure there’s lots of positives to take away from today. We had pace so we really need to dissect and understand where and why.

“I did think we would make an improvement this weekend with something we tried to fix and I think there’s more to come.”

The improved set-up, combined with clean pit stops and smart timing on strategy calls, gave Hamilton the tools he needed to carve through the midfield.

“But the set-up was really good. The car felt fricking mega, set-up-wise. And as I said, the strategy team did a fantastic job with strategy calls and pit stops. So overall mega job for Ferrari.”

Hamilton’s fourth-place finish marks Ferrari’s strongest Sunday showing in several rounds and offers a glimpse of optimism as the team regroups for the high-stakes Monaco Grand Prix next weekend.

For Hamilton personally, it was more than a result – it was a hopefully breakthrough moment for himself, the team, and the legendary scarlet machine beneath him.
