Two-time Masters champion Scheffler shot a stunning 65 on Saturday to give him clear breathing room going into Sunday’s finale.

Other big names are lurking with Jon Rahm, Si Woo Kim, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tony Finau and Bryson DeChambeau still in touching distance of the lead.

But they will need to go low on Sunday and hope Scheffler slips up or the Texan will claim the third major of his career.

    PGA Championship 2025: The Course

The course at Quail Hollow Club, designed by George Cobb in 1959, measures 7,626 yards and is a par 71.

Bad weather has hit Charlotte this week, meaning the course will play long and soft with concerns over the amount of water it has taken.

Despite this, PGA of America officials have gone against calls to introduce ‘lift, clean and place’.

“We do not plan to play preferred lies,” read a message from the PGA of America on Wednesday. “The playing surfaces are outstanding and are drying by the hour. We are mowing the fairways this evening.“We are looking forward to an exciting opening round to the 107th PGA Championship.”

This will be the second time the venue has hosted the PGA Championship, having also done so in 2017 when Justin Thomas claimed glory.

It is mainly known for hosting the Wells Fargo Championship (renamed to the Truist Championship in 2025) each year, and it has done so since 2003.

It is famed for ‘The Green Mile’, which consists of holes 16, 17 and 18.

This is widely considered to be one of the most difficult stretches in golf.

PGA Championship 2025: What has been said?

With his sights set on a third major win, Scheffler is determined to get the job done today.

He said: “It [winning] would mean a lot.

“These tournaments are very important to us and you work your whole life to have a chance to win major tournaments, any tournament for that matter.

“Tomorrow, I have a good opportunity to go out there and try and win the golf tournament, but it’s going to take another really good round. There’s a lot of great players chasing me on the leaderboard and someone is going to put up a great round.

“It’s up to me to go out there and have another really good round and finish off the tournament – I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
