San Jose: Motorcyclist dead following crash with suspected DUI driver

SAN JOSE — A motorcyclist died early Saturday morning following a fatal collision from a driver suspected of operating under the influence, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist was a 36-year-old male, according to CHP. His identity has not been released.

    The driver of the vehicle is a 22-year-old male, who sustained minor to moderate injuries and was transported to the hospital.

    The incident happened around 1:53 a.m., when CHP was notified of a crash involving a a vehicle and motorcycle near the connector of U.S. Route 101 and Interstate 280.

    Preliminary investigations revealed a white Cadillac Deville was traveling northbound on US-101 at an unknown speed. The motorcyclist was stopped on the right shoulder fueling up the vehicle.

    The driver allowed the motorcyclist to stray from a direct course of travel, and the vehicle left the roadway to the right. The front of the Cadillac then crashed into the motorcycle, leaving the 36-year-old with fatal injuries.

    After crashing into the motorcycle, the Cadillac returned to the roadway, crossed all lanes of traffic and crashed into the center divide concrete wall.

    The driver was determined to be under the influence of alcohol, and placed under arrest, according to the CHP.
