MLB is hosting its first-ever game in Tennessee, cramming a baseball field into an iconic stadium.
Bristol Motor Speedway is one of the most iconic locations on the Nascar calendar, and this year it will host a new sport for the first time.
Major League baseball has unveiled renderings of a baseball field that will sit on the infield of Bristol Motor Speedway.
The Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds will play a specialty series
MLB has undergone a push to bring baseball to locations it usually isn’t played.
Recent years have seen games played at the Field of Dreams in Iowa as well as locations in Alabama, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
Some teams have even taken the trip across the pond to play games in London.
This year, the league is keeping its specialty games domestic with the game at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee.
MLB is excited to see the turnout of fans that Bristol sees on August 2.
“Big crowd, big crowd,” Manfred said.
“We think that it’s an opportunity to have a really large audience for a major league game, and we think the setting in really a legendary speedway is going to be awesome for a baseball game.”
The game at Bristol, which is being called the Speedway Classic, has an opportunity to be the most attended game in MLB history.
The speedway can hold 146,000 fans at its full capacity.
The biggest MLB stadium is Dodger Stadium, which holds 46,000 people.
MLB anticipates getting a huge turnout of fans who watch baseball and Nascar, and executives believe it will be largely Braves fans.
“We know that there’s a uniqueness to it that is unmatched,” Schiller said.
“Playing a baseball game at a motor speedway and being part of that was really important also because this is part of where our fan base comes from.
“So we think many, maybe most of those fans are going to be Atlanta Braves fans.”
MLB fans are excited to see the game play out and shared their thoughts on social media.
“I like that MLB does this,” one fan said.
“Wow. This will be incredible,” another fan said.
“So awesome,” a third fan said.
