Tensions boiled over on the touchline at Wembley during the second half of the FA Cup final between Manchester City and Crystal Palace.
With Palace leading City 1-0 following Eberechi Eze’s first half goal, the two backroom teams clashed on the touchline near the tunnel.
The incident came moments after Palace thought they scored their second of the afternoon through Daniel Munoz in the 59th minute.
However, it was ruled out for offside following a VAR intervention and celebrations were swiftly muted.
The cameras then panned to Palace coach Paddy McCarthy and City doctor Max Sala, who came face to face for reasons that remain unknown.
The pair were eventually separated, and fans on social media reacted to the incident during a nervy all-Premier League FA Cup final.
“What could have possibly led to this??” one viewer asked on X.
A second added: “City and Palace medical staff ready to throw hands? REAL.”
“Our medical staff showing more passion then the players on the pitch,” said a City fan.
An amused fourth spectator added: “City medical staff and Paddy Mac beefing lmao.”
Further drama took place in the first half as Omar Marmoush missed a penalty following a strong stop from Dean Henderson.
Though for City fans, they would believe that Henderson should have been sent off for a handball outside the box.
The situation was diffused after a few momentsBBC SportVAR reviewed it and BBC host Gary Lineker explained during their half-time coverage why nothing was given.
“The direction in which Erling Haaland was going made it possible, but not an obvious goal scoring opportunity,” he said.
However, Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney said: “Just get rid of VAR.
“They have made a mistake and now they are trying to cover it up. It is a red card and everyone can see it’s a red card.”
