It didn’t take long for Cam Skattebo to make a strong first impression with the New York Giants, as his general manager is already singing praises of his football intelligence.
The former Arizona State running back went into New York’s rookie minicamp correctly feeling like he had everything to prove, and it’s apparently paying off.
“He’s ahead of a lot of rookies, I would say, that typically come in at that position,” Giants GM Joe Schoen told Kay Adams’ Up And Adams Show on Thursday. “Hard worker, what you see on film is what he’s been throughout the week in terms of displaying the toughness and competitive nature that shows up on film.”

Schoen said it was a seamless transition for Skattebo from rookie minicamp to getting the veterans integrated in.
“What really stood out through the process with him is his football intelligence,” the GM said. “He’s a super smart kid. He picked up all the tests throughout our process very quickly, and then assimilating in with the veterans this week, he’s just done a really good job picking up the nuances of the offense.”
Skattebo’s football intelligence was long touted by ASU coach Kenny Dillingham as a big reason he became such an integral leader for the Sun Devils.
It’s likely to position him to benefit New York in all the facets of the running back position around simply hitting holes and breaking away, such as pass blocking and receiving.
