Long Bright River cast, filming locations and episode guide on Channel 4

Long Bright River takes a long, hard look at the opioid crisis in the US and the communities it destroys.

Based on the 2020 book of the same name by Liz Moore, the mini-series coming to Channel 4 focuses on the life of Philadelphia police officer Mickey (Amanda Seyfried) working in the Kensington district.

Investigating the deaths of a string of women on the streets while hunting for her own sister, she begins to fear the cases may all be linked to her own buried past.

Polly Scates, Channel 4’s head of acquisitions, said: “We were immediately hooked by this propulsive thriller and Amanda Seyfried’s scene-stealing performance as ‘Mickey’.

“We’re thrilled that Channel 4 will be the home of Long Bright River in the UK and to bring this compelling series to our viewers across both streaming and linear.”

Mickey Fitzpatrick (Amanda Seyfried) is a police officer who patrols a Philadelphia neighbourhood hard hit by the opioid crisis.

When a series of murders begins in her district, she realises her personal history might be related to the case.

As she investigates three separate murders and a possible serial killer, she is also seeking information about her estranged sister Kacey, who is struggling with addiction and has gone missing.

Torn between her family responsibilities as a single mother and sister and her duties as a police officer, Mickey’s journey to find the truth and get justice illustrates the collective power of an underserved community.

While unexpected twists subvert expectations about who society perceives as the hero and the villain.
