Jim Ross announced on Thursday afternoon that he has colon cancer.
The WWE Hall-of-Famer said he’s scheduled to have surgery “in the next week or two.”
“I appreciate your concern and support,” Ross wrote on social media.

— Jim Ross (@JRsBBQ) May 15, 2025Ross has been involved in professional wrestling for decades. While currently signed with All Elite Wrestling, Ross is best-known for his time with the WWE and WWF. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2007 and continued to work for the company as an announcer until 2019.
Ross is also a noted Oklahoma fan and can often be spotted in Norman on game days during the fall. His WWE entrance music was ‘Boomer Sooner.’ Ross was raised in Westville, Oklahoma, which is near the Arkansas border and is located about 200 miles from the University of Oklahoma campus.
He’s remained an active participant in college football discourse over the years. A couple of years ago, Ross took a jab at Texas as the Sooners and Longhorns were preparing to make the move to the SEC. Ross was also a vocal supporter of Tennessee hiring former Oklahoma quarterback Josh Heupel as its head coach back in 2021.
Ross is 73 years old.
