Move over, CocoCay, because Royal Caribbean has a brand-new resort coming in the immediate years ahead.
As reported by USA Today, the international cruise giant has recently unveiled plans for a massive new expansion in Central America. Covering 200 acres of land and featuring some of the tallest waterslides in North and South America, it's set to be one of the biggest private resorts owned and operated by Royal Caribbean yet.
The resort -- dubbed Perfect Day Mexico -- will act as a similar port destination to Royal Caribbean's other exclusive resorts, including CocoCay in the Bahamas and Labadee along the northern coasts of Haiti.
With an expected opening date of autumn 2027, Perfect Day Mexico will feature the same pulse-pounding thrills as its sister resorts, along with plenty of laidback excursion opportunities for guests simply looking to unwind in the sun.
Some of the resort's foremost features include the Loco Waterpark, which will feature over 30 waterslides (including the tallest water tower slide in North and South America, as well as the world's first sombrero waterslide); Splash Cove, which will house the world's longest lazy river; the adults-only El Hideaway; the more upscale Costa Beach Club; the food and beverage-oriented Fiesta Plaza; and the more lax beach environments of Chill Beach North and South.
Perfect Day Mexico will also feature 12 restaurants themed after local Mexican cuisine, along with 24 bars (six of which will be swim-up bars located in the resort's pools). The port destination will also incorporate a celebration of regional Central American culture, including artwork, live performances, and souvenir shops populated by local craftworkers and artisans.
With a tentative opening date of late 2027, Royal Caribbean will begin ferrying passengers from Galveston, New Orleans and Florida to Perfect Day Mexico, expanding their West Caribbean cruise itinerary in a memorably bold fashion.
