Syrian Transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa called on investors from various nationalities to take advantage of the available opportunities in different sectors in Syria, just one day after US President Donald Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Syria.
In a televised speech directed to the Syrian people lasting about nine minutes, broadcast by official media today, Wednesday, May 14, al-Sharaa stated that Syria is committed to enhancing the investment climate, developing economic legislation, and providing the facilities necessary to enable national and foreign capital to actively contribute to reconstruction and comprehensive development.
The president welcomed all investors, both Syrians inside and abroad, as well as Arabs, Turks, and others from around the world. He added, “Syria promises you to be a land of peace and joint work and will be faithful to every hand that reaches out to it with goodness.”
On the lifting of the US sanctions, the Syrian president commented, “The decision to lift the sanctions was a historic and courageous decision. O Syrians, the road ahead of us is still long; today has marked the beginning of serious work, and with it, the revival of modern Syria has started. Let us build Syria together towards progress, prosperity, knowledge, and labor.”
Al-Sharaa noted in his address that Syrian diplomacy has conducted extensive tours over the past six months to introduce the new reality of Syria.
The Syrian president emphasized the positive role of several regional leaders in lifting sanctions against Syria, specifically mentioning Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Emirati President Mohammed bin Zayed, among others.
Al-Sharaa mentioned that French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his willingness to lift European sanctions on Syria, along with key EU countries such as Germany, Italy, and Spain.
He continued, “O people, your unity, your love for your country, and your sacrifices for it, as well as your demonstration of joy for the new Syria and your rallying around its leadership, have had a significant impact on shaping global opinion. The engagement of the Syrian communities abroad and their constructive contributions to advocating for the lifting of sanctions carried significant weight.”
On Tuesday evening, President Trump announced his decision to lift the US sanctions imposed on Syria under the ousted regime.
Trump stated during a speech at the Saudi-US Investment Forum in Riyadh, “It is time to give Syria a chance, and I wish it good luck,” adding that he decided to lift the sanctions after discussing the matter with the Saudi crown prince and the Turkish president.
US President Donald Trump met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in Saudi Arabia this morning, in a meeting attended by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who participated virtually from Turkish territory.
