Texas adds elite, in-state athlete to 2026 recruiting class

Texas is working on improving its early start to the 2026 recruiting class, and the Longhorns added one of the key building blocks for that group recently.

On Wednesday, elite athlete Jermaine Bishop Jr., out of Willis (TX) High School, revealed his commitment to the Longhorns. Bishop was also considering Texas A&M, Florida and USC from his final group but landed on Texas with his final decision.

Listed at 5-foot-11 and 155 pounds, Bishop has been dynamic on both sides of the ball in high school. He put up over 1,500 yards and 18 touchdowns as a receiver in 2024 offensively to go with 26 tackles, 6 pass breakups and 3 interceptions as a defensive back. Bishop has 44 offensive touchdowns and 2 kick return touchdowns in his high school career to go with 13 career interceptions and 3 pick-6s.

247 Sports has awarded Bishop a 5-star rating as the top ATH in the entire country. However, he checks in as a 4-star composite prospect with the No. 8 ATH ranking. He is the cousin of Michael Bishop, a QB for Kansas State in the 1990s who won the Davey O’Brien Award in 1998.

Bishop becomes the 7th hard commitment for Steve Sarkisian so far in the 2026 recruiting class, and the Longhorns have plenty of ground to cover before they reach the finish line.
