On Saturday, May 17, the Helen Woodward Animal Center will host its annual Therapeutic Riding Show from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Center’s Riding Arena.

The event invites families, friends, and supporters to cheer on therapeutic riding students as they demonstrate the equine skills they’ve developed throughout the year.

Each show features a surprise theme revealed on the day of the event. While details remain under wraps, guests can expect a seasonal celebration filled with energy and pride. After the riding demonstrations, awards will be presented to recognize each rider’s progress.

Helen Woodward’s Therapeutic Riding Program, founded in 1983, serves children and adults with a range of special needs, including cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, stroke recovery, and learning disabilities. Weekly lessons with certified instructors and specially trained horses focus on physical coordination, confidence building, and life skills such as grooming and care.

The event will be hosted for the tenth year by Magic 92.5’s Jagger and Kristi, longtime supporters of the Center and passionate animal lovers. Known for their “Kristi’s Kritters” adoption segment and annual participation in the Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon, the duo brings heart and energy to this annual event.

The program relies on generous support from donors, including the Confidence Foundation, Barbara Menard, the Halicioglu Family Foundation, and many others who help fund the care of therapy horses and ongoing sessions for riders. Donations can be made at animalcenter.org/TherapeuticRiding.

“We get to watch as these riders learn and develop throughout the year,” said Therapeutic Riding Program Manager Courtney Mellor. “There’s a special joy in seeing them share those accomplishments with the people they love. The connection between horse and rider is powerful—these animals truly become friends and partners in their journey.”
