Green Bay Packers star agonizingly misses $2m pay rise which would’ve tripled salary due to little-known NFL rule

A GREEN Bay Packers player missed out on almost tripling his salary by a fraction.

The $2 million raise would’ve kicked in had he played just two more snaps.

Guard Sean Rhyan, 24, stood to earn $3.4 million during the 2025 season.

But a little-known rule means he will be on a base salary of $1.3 million.

Rhyan needed to be on the field for at least 35 per cent of his team’s plays in his first three NFL seasons.

The rule is part of the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement.

He was a third round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Packers.

And he fell two snaps shy of the 35 per cent mark which would’ve almost tripled his earnings.

There was some discrepancy over Rhyan’s exact snap count online.

Official records have him at 34.952 per cent of Green Bay’s plays from 2022 to 2024.

An unofficial website Pro Football Reference said he played 35.003 per cent.

His agent Cameron Foster released a statement on the issue to ESPN.

“We had him at 35% of snaps exactly,” Foster said.

“However, the NFL and NFLPA both had him just under.

“So, per the Packers they are not giving him the escalator.

“We are pretty disappointed about it for sure.”

Rhyan signed a four-year deal worth $5.12 million when he was drafted.

He was handed a six-game ban for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy.

The 24-year-old earned an extra $697,000 in compensation in March through the NFL’s performance-based pay program.

Rhyan was selected out of UCLA and comes in at 6ft 5ins and 321 lbs.

Green Bay finished third in the NFC North last season with an 11-6 record.

They were beaten in the wild card round of the playoffs 22-10 by the Philadelphia Eagles.
