AARON Rodgers’ reason for delaying a decision on his future may have been revealed.
The quarterback, 41, has left the Pittsburgh Steelers waiting on whether he’ll sign for them.
Rodgers has been a free agent since he was cut by the New York Jets in March.
He spent a day at the Steelers facility and has been linked with a one-year contract worth $10 million.
But the four-time MVP has yet to make a public announcement on his future.
NBC Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio revealed a theory from a source close to Rodgers.
The source apparently had no specific knowledge of the situation.
But the theory claims that Rodgers delaying his decision is the lesser of a potential distraction.
Had he signed for the Steelers and then not attended offseason activities – it would’ve led to more questions.
Rodgers encountered that situation when he was the Jets.
The report added that Rodgers could have informally told the Steelers he’ll sign.
And the 41-year-old will be prepared to show up for OTAs and the mandatory minicamp.
Pittsburgh lost two quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields in free agency.
The pair fought over the starting job in 2024.
But Wilson went to the New York Giants while Fields joined the New York Jets.
Pittsburgh added Will Howard to their quarterback room in the sixth round of the NFL Draft.
They also have veterans Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson on their books.
Pittsburgh will discover their entire 2025 schedule Wednesday night along with the rest of the league.
One game they will feature in was confirmed Tuesday morning.
Their opponent for the first ever game in Dublin, Ireland, will be the Minnesota Vikings.
Reports claimed that they were lined up to take on the Green Bay Packers in Ireland instead.
But if Rodgers plays against his former Packers team, that game would likely be played in prime time at Acrisure Stadium.
