Nationwide £100 bonus 2025: Key date announcement and who is eligible

Nationwide customers will hear if they are in line for another cash windfall this month.

The world’s largest building society has offered payouts to certain qualifying members for the past two years.

Last year, this meant almost four million customers received a cash bonus.

This year, the high-street banking giant has said it will make a key announcement on their plans later in May.

Nationwide has more than 600 branches nationwide, more than 16 million members, and offers banking services such as current accounts, mortgages, and savings products.

After the purchase of Virginmoney, it had already given a £50 one-off payment to 12 million of its customers earlier this year as part of the “Big Nationwide Thank You.”

We take a look at what is in the pipeline now.

As a building society, Nationwide is made up of members, and this membership means receiving a share of any annual profits.

The scheme through which this is done is called the Nationwide Fairer Share Payment. It is a way of rewarding members who use the building society for everyday banking, savings, or mortgages.

It was launched in 2023, and in June last year, four million Nationwide eligible members received a £100 Fairer Share payment after the building society recorded a pre-tax profit of £1,776 million.

The payment is taxable savings income, which means it is treated like any interest earned on a savings account or current account.

When will the 2025 bonus be confirmed?

This year, members will know by the end of the month if they are receiving another Fairer Share payment and, if so, how much.

It will depend on how well the building society performed during the past financial year, 2024/2025.

A spokesperson for Nationwide told The i Paper: “Nationwide’s Board will decide on a Fairer Share payment for 2025, and it will depend on our financial performance.

“The decision will be announced as part of our full year results on 29 May.”

What do I need to do to get the bonus?

Not all customers or members of the building society will automatically be in line for the £100 windfall.

There are generally some conditions which need to be met before entitlement to the payout.

These have not so far been announced for 2025, but last year, eligibility was dependent on having one of the following product combinations:

A qualifying current account and a qualifying savings account A qualifying current account and a qualifying mortgage

A qualifying current account must be one of the following:

FlexPlus FlexOne, FlexStudent, FlexGraduate FlexAccount, FlexDirect, Flexbasic

Accounts had to have been open by 31 March in the qualifying year, and there were additional qualifying criteria for each type of account.

Qualifying savings required account holders to have had at least £100 in total in one or more personal savings accounts or cash ISAs with Nationwide at the end of any day in March of the year in question.

Qualifying mortgage holders had to have owed at least £100 on their Nationwide residential mortgage on 31 March of the qualifying year.

If there was more than one account holder, each holder was a member of Nationwide, and so the terms and conditions applied to each individually.

This meant that if a qualifying current account or qualifying mortgage was in joint names, the product and the whole of any balance counted towards each individual’s eligibility for the payment.

For eligible people, the payment has been made in mid to late June in the past two years.

Recipients will not need to do anything as long as they have an open current account with Nationwide; the money will be transferred directly to the account. The payment will be made there for those with a joint current account.
