The Pakistan National Cricket Team has made a massive addition to its coaching staff. The PCB has appointed former New Zealand National Cricket Team player Mike Hesson as the white-ball head coach.
The development comes after Aaqib Javed's contract as the interim head coach ended after the tour to New Zealand. It was learned that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was keen to appoint someone on a full-time basis, and Javed also decided against renewing his contract as head coach.
Since then, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been working hard to secure a head coach for the team. There were reports that the board wanted a foreign name on the list as they believed that it would be their best bet to bring the Pakistan National Cricket Team back on track.
Recently, it was learned that PCB was in talks with Australian Simon Katich and New Zealand’s current batting coach, Luke Ronchi, along with Mike Hesson. Among them, the former New Zealand international got the nod ahead and will be taking charge of the team.
This could be a positive step in the development of the Pakistan National Cricket Team, as Mike Hesson has been one of the best coaches going around in world cricket. He has been coaching franchises across the globe and was associated with Royal Challengers Bengaluru as their Director of Cricket.
Mike Hesson joining the Pakistan National Cricket Team will be a major boost for the team
Hesson is also the coach of Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League. The former New Zealand star has been doing a great job for the last few years, and it was under him only that the franchise went on to win the title last year.
Mike Hesson joining the Pakistan National Cricket Team will be a major boost for the team. The Asian side has struggled big time in the last few months across the formats, and despite making a lot of changes in the squad, they are yet to achieve greatness.
Mike Hesson would be hoping that he gels well with the officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The previous foreign coaches were sacked due to their poor relationship with the board. Before Aaqib Javed, Garry Kirsten, and Jason Gillespie faced the same fate.
Aaqib Javed appointed as Director of High Performance
While PCB didn't renew the contract of Aaqib Javed as head coach, they made sure that they utilised him in some capacity. The former head coach of the team has now been appointed as the Director of High Performance.
Pakistan National Cricket Team will be next seen in action when they take on Bangladesh National Cricket Team in the five-match T20I series, starting on 25th May. Both Hesson and Javed would want to win the series and start their new stint on high.
