Former UK Open semi-finalist David Pallett was left red-faced after a checkout attempt backfired at the German Darts Open.
Pallett faced Daryl Gurney in the second round in Saarbrucken in 2019 when he attempted his audacious ‘big fish’.
Pallett found himself behind after five legs as Gurney established a comfortable 4-1 lead at the Saarlandhalle.
However, the Englishman gave himself an opportunity to break back in the sixth leg after leaving himself 170 after 12 darts.
He began his attempt at the checkout perfectly by pinning triple 20 with each of his first two darts.
Before lining up the bullseye, Pallett then turned to the crowd in a display of showmanship.
His antics were met with cheers and applause from the fans inside the arena.
Chants of ‘there’s only one David Pallett’ could also be heard as he turned back around towards the oche.
Pallett then stunned both the crowd and the commentators by snubbing the checkout.
Instead, he threw a single 18 to leave 32 and a one-dart checkout on his next visit.
The decision came with Gurney back on 164, although it did not stop the crowd from making their feelings known.
Pallett’s decision was met with boos as he smiled after collecting his darts from the board.

There really is only one David Pallett.”
The gamble almost immediately backfired for Pallett, though, after his next visit.
After Gurney had been unable to complete his own ton-plus checkout, Pallett miss three darts at a double to win the leg.
Superchin then punished his opponent as he returned to the oche with just 70 remaining.
Gurney made no mistake after leaving himself double 16 to move 5-1 in front.
Pallett was left with no choice but to smile as he watched on, having almost fallen to his knees following his previous visit.
Although he recovered to hold throw in the next leg, Pallett was ultimately beaten 6-2 by Gurney.
The 12th seed went on to lose 6-3 to Mensur Suljovic in the next round.
