The Genius Produce Bag Trick We Wish We’d Known About Sooner

There’s something so satisfying about finding a new use for something that would normally go in the trash. Maybe it’s my love for frugality, or maybe it’s just the thrill of turning everyday objects into something beautiful and functional. Either way, I’m a big fan of those little moments when you realize you can hack your way to a simpler, more creative life.I’m also a sucker for fresh flowers. A vase full of blooms makes your whole home feel brighter, warmer and a little more put-together, even if there are toys scattered around and a pile of laundry you keep ignoring. So, when I came across this genius trick for turning those flimsy mesh produce bags into a flower-arranging tool, I had to try it. Spoiler alert: it works, and it’s awesome. This was shared by content creators Jeff and Lauren (@jeffandlaurenshow) and I love how simple and thoughtful it is.Related: The Genius Plastic Bag Trick We Wish We’d Known About Sooner?? SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter??.

You know those stretchy mesh bags that hold your oranges, onions or avocados? They make the perfect stabilizing grid for flower arrangements. It’s so simple, I can’t believe I didn’t think of it myself. For this hack, you'll need a mesh produce bag, a mason jar with a screw-on ring lid, fresh flowers and scissors.Start by filling your mason jar with water. Make sure it’s clean and the ring is ready to go. Then, stretch the mesh bag over the mouth of the jar. Pull it tight so it’s snug, then screw the ring lid over the mesh to hold it in place.

Use your scissors to carefully trim the extra mesh around the edges. You want a neat, flat grid across the top. Now comes the fun part! Use the holes in the mesh to place your flowers. The grid will keep your stems in place, making it so much easier to create a balanced, professional-looking arrangement without floral foam or fancy tools. If you don't have a mason jar or are looking to create a large arrangement, creator @athomewithshannon gave this trick a try using a full-size vase. In her video, she placed the mesh over the top of the vase, trimmed it a bit, then taped the edges of the bag so it fit tightly across the opening.Once you’ve got your flowers arranged just the way you like them, set your jar on the table or kitchen counter for a little splash of color.Related: The Supersmart Viral Paper Towel Trick We Wish We’d Known About Sooner

Why This Hack Is a Game Changer

There are a few reasons this little trick is a winner in my book.

For one, you’re giving that mesh bag a second life, keeping it out of the landfill for just a bit longer. It’s a small step, but it adds up.

The grid helps hold your stems in place, giving you a fuller, more polished arrangement without the struggle of trying to get each stem to stay put. When you’re ready to change out your flowers, just unscrew the lid, dump the old water and start fresh.

This hack costs you literally nothing if you’re already buying produce in mesh bags, which is a win for my wallet.

I love a hack that’s both practical and pretty, and this one is definitely going into my regular rotation. It’s such a simple way to add a little extra charm to your space, and it’s a great excuse to grab that bouquet you’ve been eyeing at the grocery store. Plus, it’s just fun to feel a little bit like a flower-arranging pro without the price tag of a fancy florist.
