San Diego County is on the verge of a “major cooling trend,” according to the National Weather Service, breaking the record heat that gripped the region over the weekend.
But although some drop in temperatures is anticipated for Sunday, the real cooling off won’t start until Monday.
“Tomorrow is really going to be the start of a nice change in the longwave pattern, which will bring a significant cooldown to southern California,” said the NWS San Diego office in a discussion.
“Temperatures will also begin to feel much more tolerable and closer to the seasonal average for this time of year, with highs roughly 20 to 25 degrees cooler in departure from where they will be [Sunday] of the inland valleys.”
Some clouds and fog are predicted for Sunday, but those are expected to be confined to the coastal areas. Those regions will also potentially see some light drizzle through Wednesday morning.
Highs on Sunday are expected to be around 80 degrees at the coast and in the mid-90s inland. On Monday, highs at the coast will top out at about 68, and in the low 70s inland.
