Shocking images reveal full extent of Pat McAfee’s Backlash defeat that falls short of personal WWE record

Pat McAfee has shown off his war wounds after a vicious clash with Gunther at Backlash.

The Raw commentator returned to the ring on Saturday night for his first singles match since WrestleMania 39, seeking retribution after a brutal attack at the hands of the Ring General last month.

But taking down a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion, who shockingly lost his title to Jey Uso a few weeks ago, was never going to be easy.

Gunther spent much of the match toying with his opponent, dropping McAfee with chop after chop to his chest, as Cole pleaded with him to end it.

McAfee tried to fight back by hitting multiple kicks, but the Ring General shrugged them off.

That led to Cole himself getting involved, and after he left the booth to cheer for his friend, Gunther threw him into the ring.

He then prepared to hit a powerbomb on the announcer, but McAfee saved his skin.

After 14 minutes of action, Gunther finally ended the match when he cinched in the sleeper, and despite a valiant effort from the former NFL kicker, he passed out in the middle of the ring.

The Ring General even gave a rare show of respect to McAfee after they shared the squared circle, nodding to him before leaving.

Plenty of fans responded positively to the bout too, describing it as entertaining both in terms of in-ring action and the overall storyline.

McAfee, though, will be feeling worse for wear ahead of returning to Raw commentary duties on Monday night.

Soon after the match, he took to social media to show off his wounds after taking Gunther’s famous offense.

The Austrian star has a reputation for the most vicious chops in professional wrestling, and McAfee’s body after the bout proved just that.

“My chest… is ahhh… burning,” he wrote, sharing a photo on X of the damage.

His image quickly went viral, and has been viewed more than 800,000 times in just six hours.

“Great show tonight,” one person responded, praising his effort.

“So much respect, Pat,” a second said.

    “Ouch,” a third simply responded.

While McAfee won plenty of plaudits for his in-ring effort, he fell just short of beating his own WWE record.

The broadcaster spent 14 minutes in the ring with Gunther, marking his second-longest singles match since joining the company.

His longest bout to date remains his first, against Adam Cole at NXT: TakeOver in August 2020.

That ran for 16 minutes and 11 seconds.

McAfee has also had shorter bouts with Austin Theory, Vince McMahon, Happy Corbin and The Miz.
