GASTONIA, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A Kings Mountain woman was killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash near an Interstate 85 ramp in Gastonia, according to local authorities.
The deadly collision happened at 7:54 a.m. on the Exit 14 off/on ramp at Bessemer City Road.
Police said the driver of a black two-door Honda Accord attempted to make a left turn onto the I-85 South ramp but failed to yield to oncoming traffic. As a result, the Honda was broadsided on the passenger side by a silver Infiniti, Gastonia Police said.
? Track issues along your commute with the QCN Traffic Interactive MapCassie Hawkins, 38, of Kings Mountain, was sitting in the passenger seat of the Honda and died at the scene. Both drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash prompted a large emergency response and caused traffic delays in the area.
The crash remains under investigation.
