Caitlin Clark knows what was missing from her game in her rookie season.
Despite a 2024 debut campaign in which she broke multiple WNBA records and won the Rookie of the Year award, the 23-year-old is looking to right some wrongs in her second year.
There is no doubt that Clark enjoyed a remarkable rookie campaign in the WNBA.
She led the WNBA in assists last season and was also an All-Star, garnering All-WNBA First Team and All-Rookie Team honors in her debut year.
The 23-year-old averaged 19.2 points on 41.7 percent shooting with 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals.
She also became the first rookie since Candace Parker in 2008 to make the All-WNBA First Team.
Not only that, along with other stars in the rookie class last year, Clark also helped to drive the WNBA to it’s most watched regular season in 24 years and its highest attendance in 20 years.
31 WNBA matches last season averaged over one million viewers and 22 of them involved Clark, with almost every fixture she played in broadcast on national television.
Yet despite this, Clark wants more, and it’s no surprise to her new head coach Stephanie White.
“She’s an incredibly hard worker. She’s a high-IQ player. She’s a perfectionist, like she wants to get better. She lives in the gym…but to really see that on a daily basis has been impressive,” White said in the Indiana Fever‘s media availability.
In that same press conference, Clark opened up on what she struggled with in 2024 as she revealed her individual goals for next season.
“Just being a good leader. When you’re the PG, you gotta be the strongest voice on the floor, at times that’s where I struggled last year, coming in as a rookie, you don’t know when to use your voice,” Clark said.

She took fans aback during pre-season with her remarkable physical transformation.
“I certainly feel a lot stronger,” Clark said.
“I’m a pretty self-aware person. I knew that was going to be a huge part of [the offseason]… even through these two practises, I can certainly feel it.”
The new photos show her looking more cut and bigger than she was last year, something White believes will be crucial in the development of her game.
“Being able to address getting in the weight room, getting stronger, being able to stay on balance, better time under tension, core stability, all of those things,” White remarked.
“Then to be able to get in the gym and really hone in on some nuance of her game, that’s going to help her get to another level.”
The WNBA season starts on May 16, and Clark will have a chance to show her improvements when she faces Angel Reese‘s Chicago Sky the following day.
