Incoming Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso is interested in signing Dean Huijsen this summer, talkSPORT understands.
Bayer Leverkusen confirmed Alonso’s departure on Friday – with the former midfielder expected to replace Carlo Ancelotti at the Bernabeu.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth star Huijsen has become one of the most sought-after centre-backs in European football amid his success in the Premier League.
The Spain international has consistently been a defensive rock for the Cherries since he signed for almost £13million from Juventus last summer.
Madrid are keen on welcoming the 20-year-old to the Bernabeu but could face competition from Premier League sides.
talkSPORT reported last month that Chelsea have stepped up their interest in Huijsen, who has a £50m release clause.
Arsenal and Tottenham have also held talks, but it is understood that Liverpool are his preferred Premier League club.
Should a move to England not come to fruition, then Huijsen could be set for Madrid during a huge summer for the Spanish giants.
They are already set to announce the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.
Madrid’s summer plans will follow the signings of Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe over the past two windows.
The club are understood to be planning a grand farewell for Ancelotti in their final home game of the season against Real Sociedad on May 25.
His successor is all but confirmed too as talkSPORT understands that Alonso has agreed to return this summer.

Alonso guided Leverkusen to an unbeaten Bundesliga title last season and was then linked with the Liverpool job before Arne Slot joined.
Alonso told the German club’s official website: “I owe great thanks to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, my players and staff, all the employees of the club and last but not least the fantastic fans. Our success was the result of an outstanding team performance.
“This club, who showed exceptional trust in me, very much deserved to win the German league title for the first time. My thanks and admiration go to everybody who helped to make this triumph happen including the DFB Pokal win in Berlin.
“Bayer 04 are ready for the future. The positive path will continue and I will be excited to follow it.”
Now he is set to move back to Los Blancos and replace Ancelotti, who has delivered plenty more success to the club in his second spell.
The Italian will depart after two LaLiga and three Champions League title wins amongst various other honours during his total time there.
