WHAT: City council meeting Monday
PRESENT: Kevin Piros, Don Moore, Jim Bradley, Kathy Fleischer, Richard McClain, John Picuri, Scott Rowley and Mayor Deidre Petrosky
Council:
• Approved proceeding with repairing and purchasing brakes for the city’s street sweeper. Brakes will be purchased from JDC in Twinsburg for $9,378.
• Was informed by Interim Service Director Sean Ratican that West Main Street will be repaved in 2026.
• Announced the splash pad will open for the season on Memorial Day weekend.
• Heard from McClain the Memorial Day ceremony will be 2 p.m. May 26 with a bridge on South High Street to be dedicated to Cortland-area veterans. He also said the water feature at the memorial is working.
• Gave second reading to a contract with Shelley and Sands Inc. of North Jackson for the 2025 asphalt resurfacing project. The city obtained an Ohio Public Works Commission grant to cover 32% of the project cost up to $100,000. The engineer’s estimate for the project was $387,384. The local share is $275,199.
