We’re getting near the finish line of the regular season!
There are only 2 weekends to go in the SEC before all 16 teams head to Hoover for the conference tournament and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
With 6 conference games to go, Texas is still on top in the SEC standings, but things are much tighter after the Longhorns got swept by Arkansas. The Hogs are now only 2 games back.
At the other end of the standings, Mizzou still has a goose egg in the win column and South Carolina has too many losses for an at-large bid. Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Texas A&M are all trying to pick up SEC wins and make the conference a 14-bid league.
Ahead of all the action Thursday-Sunday, The Windup is here to provide a quick glance at where each squad stands entering this weekend’s conference series.

South Carolina at Auburn (Thursday-Saturday)
South Carolina at a glance:
Overall record: 26-23 SEC record: 5-19 Home record: 21-10 Road record: 4-11 Streak: L3 Last SEC series: L, 0-3 vs. Florida RPI: 65Auburn at a glance:

There’s not a lot of outside intrigue here at this point of the season. Barring a Cinderella run at the SEC Tournament, South Carolina is not in the NCAA Tournament picture. Auburn, though, is solidly on track to be a top-8 national seed. The Tigers look to keep things rolling after a big series win over Tennessee.
Georgia at Alabama
Georgia at a glance:
Overall record: 39-11 SEC record: 15-9 Home record: 27-3 Road record: 9-8 Streak: W6 Last SEC series: W, 3-0 vs. Mizzou RPI: 2Alabama at a glance:
Overall record: 37-12 SEC record: 13-11 Home record: 23-6 Road record: 10-6 Streak: W1 Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. Vanderbilt RPI: 12Off the bat watchability rating: Over the wall
There should be some good baseball played in Tuscaloosa. UGA is the conference team with the longest active winning streak at 6 games. Alabama is solidly in the NCAA Tournament, but not a current projected host, so the Crimson Tide has plenty to play for. UA has been strong at home, and this is the most exciting home matchup for the Tide since March.
Arkansas at LSU
Arkansas at a glance:
Overall record: 40-9 SEC record: 17-7 Home record: 30-3 Road record: 7-5 Streak: W3 Last SEC series: W, 3-0 vs. Texas RPI: 4LSU at a glance:
Overall record: 38-11 SEC record: 15-9 Home record: 28-4 Road record: 6-7 Streak: L1 Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. Texas A&M RPI: 8Off the bat watchability rating: Tape-measure power
Ok, Arkansas, you were underestimated after a 3-series slump, but you have the college baseball world’s attention after sweeping Texas. The Arkansas-LSU rivalry was one of the SEC West’s best in the days of divisions. Though the Tigers are a few games behind in the SEC standings, they’re on track to be a top-8 national seed. This is a matchup that never disappoints in the regular season, and we might see it again in Hoover and Omaha.
Florida at Texas
Florida at a glance:
Overall record: 33-17 SEC record: 11-13 Home record: 24-9 Road record: 9-7 Streak: L1 Last SEC series: W, 3-0 vs. South Carolina RPI: 18Texas at a glance:
Overall record: 39-8 SEC record: 19-5 Home record: 25-3 Road record: 9-4 Streak: W1 Last SEC series: L, 0-3 vs. Arkansas RPI: 1Off the bat watchability rating: Over the wall
This one might have been tape-measure power had Florida not picked up a Quad 3 home loss to USF in midweek action. Still, the Gators are one of the hottest teams in SEC play, winning 10 of their last 12 for 4 consecutive series wins to improve to 11-13. UF really needs to avoid the sweep, as it has work to do with its NCAA Tournament resume. For the first time all year, Texas is in bounce-back mode. After winning their first 7 SEC series, the Longhorns got swept by Arkansas. Jim Schlossnagle’s team, though, has been dominant at home (25-3).
Oklahoma at Kentucky
Oklahoma at a glance:
Overall record: 32-14 SEC record: 13-11 Home record: 19-8 Road record: 9-6 Streak: L1 Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Ole Miss RPI: 21Kentucky at a glance:
Overall record: 25-20 SEC record: 10-14 Home record: 15-10 Road record: 10-10 Streak: L4 Last SEC series: L, 0-3 vs. Mississippi State RPI: 41Off the bat watchability rating: Over the wall
Kentucky had long looked like an NCAA Tournament team, but the Bat Cats find themselves on the bubble after a 4-game losing streak, sitting at 10-14 in SEC play with an RPI of 41. The pressure is on for UK to split or do better in the final 6 SEC contests against Oklahoma and Vanderbilt. OU is solidly in the field of 64 with 13 SEC wins already, but there’s plenty of room to boost its resume.
Ole Miss at Mississippi State
Ole Miss at a glance:
Overall record: 33-15 SEC record: 13-11 Home record: 22-7 Road record: 8-6 Streak: W1 Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. Oklahoma RPI: 16Mississippi State at a glance:
Overall record: 29-19 SEC record: 10-14 Home record: 20-7 Road record: 6-9 Streak: W4 Last SEC series: W, 3-0 vs. Kentucky RPI: 35Off the bat watchability rating: Tape-measure power
Is Mississippi State really about to play its way into the field of 64 after firing its head coach? The Bulldogs are 10-14 in conference play and fighting to make the NCAA Tournament. Ole Miss is solidly a tournament team, but the Rebels would love to rain on MSU’s parade. Holding a solid RPI, Ole Miss could re-enter the hosting conversation with a strong showing before Selection Monday.
Mizzou at Texas A&M
Mizzou at a glance:
Overall record: 13-35 SEC record: 0-24 Home record: 8-17 Road record: 1-15 Streak: L12 Last SEC series: L, 0-3 vs. Georgia RPI: 157Texas A&M at a glance:
Overall record: 27-20 SEC record: 10-14 Home record: 21-10 Road record: 5-8 Streak: W1 Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. LSU RPI: 36Off the bat watchability rating: High chopper to 3rd
In recent weeks, the series involving Mizzou have offered nothing to outsiders. There’s a bit of outside interest this week with Texas A&M at 10-14 in conference play. The Tigers have dropped all 24 of their SEC contests, and the Aggies are looking to sweep and get to that magic number of 13 SEC wins. A&M would rather not feel any pressure next week at Georgia.
Vanderbilt at Tennessee
Vanderbilt at a glance:
Overall record: 34-15 SEC record: 14-10 Home record: 25-5 Road record: 8-8 Streak: L1 Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Alabama RPI: 5Tennessee at a glance:
Overall record: 38-11 SEC record: 14-10 Home record: 27-7 Road record: 8-4 Streak: W1 Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. Auburn RPI: 13Off the bat watchability rating: Over the wall
It’s not often you worry about a 38-11 team with an RPI of 13, but Tennessee is struggling in a major way. The Volunteers have now dropped their last 3 series at home, dating back to early April against Texas A&M. UT appeared to bounce back with the series win at Ole Miss, but since then, has dropped series to Kentucky (home), LSU (road) and Auburn (home). The Tennessee-Vanderbilt rivalry has been one of the most intense in the SEC since Tony Vitello brought the Vols back to national prominence. Tim Corbin’s Vandy Boys would love to add to Tennessee’s recent woes.
