Nearly 35,000 Cases of This Popular Breakfast Item Has Been Recalled—Heres What to Know

This might just be a me thing, but breakfast is so much better with a side of potatoes. Sure, you may not want potatoes with your oatmeal, but who’s to say they won’t make your oatmeal taste that much better? You can dunk them in that glorious jammy egg yolk or top them with eggs, veggies, and cheese for a scramble. Toss them into an omelet or on top of a breakfast sandwich, or even eat them on their own with a sprinkle of salt and pepper. There’s a reason it’s the most consumed vegetable in the United States.

Potatoes are incredibly versatile and seamlessly transition from breakfast to dinner without skipping a beat. They’re cheap and hearty, making them a no-brainer to add to your shopping cart, and they come in plenty of prepared varieties, helping get any meal on the table in minutes. Don’t even get me started on hashbrowns. Personally, I could devour 10 in one sitting, but that’s just me. The only thing that could deter me is if there happened to be something wrong with said hashbrowns, but that would never be the case—right?!

Wrong. Unfortunately, you might want to side-eye those hashbrowns in the freezer due to a recent recall on Lamb Weston Hashbrown Patties for potential plastic contamination. Yep, that’s right, my potato-eating comrades. Plastic in the hashbrowns. The affected products were distributed to Arizona and Hawaii as well as internationally to Japan, Kuwait, Taiwan, and the UAE. While the recall is listed as Class II, indicating a low risk of adverse health effects, the plastic pieces reportedly range in size from 1mm to 8mm, and that sounds like the opposite of good eats to me.

The recall covers a whopping 34,801 cases of products with use-by dates ranging from August 30, 2025, to April 15, 2026. So far, no illnesses or injuries have been reported as a result of the recall; however, it’s best to avoid consuming these or return the items to your place of purchase. Breakfast will never be the same.
