Trader Joes Just Brought Back This Seasonal Summer-Ready Treat and Shoppers Are Losing It: Love Them

Food, at its very core, is activism. It may not seem like it, but the things on your plate are just as political as the policies that got them there. It’s one of the only things that touches each and every one of our lives, and access to it, or lack thereof, can be the linchpin that shifts the trajectory of generations.

The most recent Met Gala, for instance, was inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The affair was rife with nods and homages to the ingenuity and style of African Americans who worked to transcend the bounds of their given social status through the styling of their clothes—and, more or less, the event turned out to be a success.

As much as it was an event for the culture, though, the choice to serve soul food prepared by none other than Chef Kwame Onwuachi hasn’t been covered as much. It’s a clear indicator that the event was meant to celebrate the contributions of those often pushed to the fringes of society, and this was their moment to shine. The same can be said for dairy-free milks and dishes made without gluten. A narrow lens would say that everyone eats the same, and to just deal with it. Of course, that’s far from the case.

Fortunately, Trader Joe’s has long been at the forefront of delivering tasty treats for those of us with diet preferences or allergies, and their latest returning summery treat is one we’ll be reaching for all season long. @trader_joes_treasure_hunt shared that the fan-favorite Gluten Free Strawberry Muffins have returned, and fans are losing their collective minds. These delectable muffins are made with a brown sugar and vanilla base studded with ripe, juicy strawberries.

The addition of buttermilk and sour cream creates an exceptionally moist crumb, and the crunchy demerara sugar adds a textural contrast that’s to die for. You won’t even believe they’re gluten-free! We can see why fans say, “These are so good.” And at just $5.99 for a pack of four, we’ll be clearing the shelves. Now that’s what we call representation. Here’s to creating a kinder future, one plate at a time.
