Cam Rising was once one of the bright quarterback stars in college football, leading Utah to back-to-back Pac-12 titles in 2021 and 2022. Unfortunately, a devastating knee injury in the Rose Bowl after the 2022 season forced Rising to miss the entire 2023 football season.
Rising eventually opted to come back to Utah for the 2024 season, where he would appear in 3 games. A Week 2 hand injury forced Rising to miss multiple games, and he eventually suffered another season-ending injury in Week 7 of the season.
For much of the offseason, Rising’s status for 2025 was up in the air after he had the option to return for another season of college football. Unfortunately, Rising revealed on Wednesday that will not be the case, medically retiring from the sport.
Despite his previous knee injuries, Rising revealed the decision stems from the hand injury he sustained against Baylor last season:
Due to a hand injury I suffered during the Baylor game, I’ve been advised by two orthopedic physicians that I will never be able to return to playing football. I’ll be obtaining a 3rd medical opinion and will undergo the recommended surgery. I will continue to rehab and do all I can to get healthy. In the meantime, I will unfortunately be forced to medically retire from the game I love.
