There’s no doubt Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zac Gallen is going to get paid this offseason, whether it be by Arizona or elsewhere.
As for what that dollar amount might look like for the impending free agent, ESPN’s Jeff Passan turned the dial to the $100 million range in his latest evaluation of the next nine-figure contracts waiting to happen in the 2025-26 class and beyond.
While Gallen’s stuff has ticked down this season and he turns 30 in August, he has been a consistent enough innings eater with a high enough strikeout rate to warrant inclusion among the nine-figure aspirants. His elevated walk rates each of the past two seasons are of concern for a pitcher whose fastball sits at 93, so Gallen needs to pare those back if he wants to stay in this group.
Across an uneven eight games this season, Gallen is 3-4 with a 4.37 ERA and 1.21 WHIP.
His two recent, though, were a sign that he’s just hitting his stride.
Last Thursday against the New York Mets in 6.0 innings of work, Gallen allowed just one earned run (a solo home run by Juan Soto) on two hits and three walks. The starting pitcher struck out eight batters.
He struck out six more and just two more hits in 7.0 frames Tuesday against the Mets.
Will the Arizona Diamondbacks be able to bring back Zac Gallen if he commands over $100 million in free agency?@wolf987FM @LukeLapinski

Zac Gallen is not the only Diamondback on Passan’s $100 million contract watch
Is there gold in frog’s blood?!
There might be if Passan’s $100 million forecast for shortstop Geraldo Perdomo, who was part of the 2028-29 or later class, is accurate.
Perdomo just signed a four-year, $45 million extension with a club option that bought out three free agent seasons and will leave him as a free agent at 31. Perdomo has been brilliant this year, nearly matching his career high in home runs, getting on base at a .400 clip and walking more than he strikes out. And there are few better with the glove, easily positioning him to cash in once free agency beckons.
Perdomo is putting up a career year in 2025, slashing .286/.399/.460 with an .859 OPS.
He’s first on the team in RBIs (30), walks (26) and stolen bases (nine), third in hits (36) and tied for fourth in home runs (five).
And while he’s fresh off signing a contract extension in February, Perdomo’s play certainly warrants a spot in Passan’s ranking.
