A beloved blind rescue dog from Ault, who inspired the children’s book “Crooze on Croozer,” has peacefully died.
Croozer, a blue heeler cattle dog, was abandoned with serious health issues and blindness during the COVID-19 pandemic, yet he made a remarkable recovery with the support of four nonprofits, according to his owner, Suzie Roberts.
Roberts had the opportunity to share Croozer’s story of courage and resiliency with nationally acclaimed author Peggy Sundberg, known as Cowgirl Peg. Cowgirl Peg went on to write “Crooze on Croozer” about the furry friend, immediately capturing the hearts of many.
The book introduces young readers to the themes of “second chances, unconditional love and strength through adversity” through the canine’s experiences, according to Roberts.
Cowgirl Peg has written many character-building books with animals and western themes. She “promotes literacy, character education and compassionate values through her real-life animal stories” to her young audiences across the nation, the release said.
“Crooze on Croozer” has been distributed to schools for the blind and recently printed in Braille for use at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Austin.

“Though Croozer is no longer with us, his story lives on — in classrooms, in the hearts of children and in the mission of those who believe every animal deserves a chance,” Roberts wrote in the release.
