It’s no secret that the separation—and now pending divorce—between reality TV stars Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright has been anything but amicable. Since announcing their split in February 2024, both have been outspoken about the breakdown of their relationship. In August, Brittany officially filed for divorce and also fought for full custody of their now 4-year-old son, Cruz.
One of the major issues in their five-year marriage was Jax’s long-standing struggle with drug and alcohol abuse. In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Brittany opened up about their dynamic since Jax got sober 120 days ago, candidly discussing both the positive changes and ongoing challenges.

♬ original sound - Us WeeklyBrittany was candid in expressing that while she’s glad Jax is sober, she expected more from her almost ex-husband after he stopped using cocaine, his drug of choice. “He’s still trying to be very controlling of me,” she admitted, adding, “I just don’t know if he’s ever going to fully grow up.”

Viewers of Brittany's interview with US Weekly had a lot to say about Jax's sobriety. @Erin Tanwen shared, "They call this being a ‘dry drunk’…you’re technically sober but haven’t yet participated in self-development and are therefore still stuck in a state of arrested development."
Commenter @Rachel added, "Sobriety NEVER fixes the narcissism he will ALWAYS be the same JAX. If he really wants to change, he would drop the JAX persona and be JASON." @Tiffany Cunningham agreed, "His personality has been the same since she met him."
Jax, who has admitted that he's been doing drugs off and on for over 20 years shared on X (formerly Twitter) in April that sobriety remains a major challenge, "I got asked the other day what is the hardest drug that I have ever done ... That’s easy. Sobriety, dealing with life head-on, and taking accountability for my actions."
Hopefully, Jax stays strong in his recovery and gets the help he needs—not just for himself, but for his son as well.
