Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant’s persistent struggles in IPL 2025 continue to be a major talking point among cricket experts, and now Virender Sehwag has shared some personal advice for the struggling wicketkeeper-batter.
After yet another disappointing outing, scoring just 18 runs off 17 balls against Punjab Kings in a huge 237-run chase, Pant’s season has reached a worrying low. So far, the left-handed batter has scored only 128 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of just 99.22.
The Indian wicketkeeper-batter was picked by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a whopping INR 27 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, making him the most expensive player in the tournament’s history, but he has not lived up to the hype and expectations.

LSG’s 37-run loss to PBKS in Dharamshala has pushed the franchise into a must-win situation, as they now have to win all of their remaining three league matches to keep their playoff hopes alive. After the PBKS versus LSG match, Virender Sehwag said that Pant should try to reconnect with the version of himself that used to dominate bowlers.
The former Indian opener feels Pant should take some time to watch his own past performances, especially from successful IPL seasons. Furthermore, he has noted that even small changes in a player’s routine or mindset can have a big impact on performance. Sehwag even mentioned how he went through similar struggles in his career and used this method to regain his rhythm.
Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz, “I think Rishabh Pant should watch his old IPL clips where he scored runs, and that will give him confidence. Many times, we tend to forget our routines because this Rishabh Pant is totally different from the one we saw before his injury.
I remember back in 2006/07 when I was struggling with runs, I was dropped from the Indian team, and then Rahul Dravid told me to go back and check my routine from the days when I used to score runs. Sometimes when there are disturbances in the routine, it affects the runs.”

The cricket pundit also suggested the LSG captain give a call to his mentor and idol, MS Dhoni, to clear his mind and regain confidence, as a conversation with the legendary cricketer can be helpful both emotionally and mentally amid the IPL 2025 woes.
Sehwag signed off by saying, “Again, he does have a mobile; all he needs to do is pick up the phone and call someone. If you feel you are thinking negatively, there are so many cricketers you can discuss it with. Dhoni is his role model, so he should call him. It will lighten him up.”
During the same discussion, former South African cricketer Shaun Pollock said that he is really confused by Pant’s poor form in the ongoing IPL 2025. He suggested that Pant might be feeling isolated at Lucknow Super Giants due to the absence of his Indian teammates.
'Is he the kind of guy who is more of a homeboy'
Pollock felt that being surrounded mostly by international players might be affecting Pant’s mood and confidence, as he doesn’t seem like his usual self on the field this season.
He signed off by saying, “I am wondering what explanations you will give. Is he the kind of guy who is more of a homeboy and is missing the company of his fellow Indian players? I'm just trying to pluck on theories, because he is affected and is not his normal self.”
