PITTSBURG — Sprouts Farmers Market will open its doors to residents on June 27, adding to the number of grocery stores and healthy food options in the city.
Situated next to Ray Giacomelli Park on San Marco Boulevard and West Leland Road, it will be the city’s sixth grocery store – others include WinCo Foods, Cardenas Market, Island Pacific Supermarket, FoodsCo, and Safeway.

“We are working on one more lease right now that we should have wrapped up in the next month,” Garrison told this news organization.
Mountain Mike’s Pizza and Cold Stone Creamery are expected to be open in early June, while Wingstop and UPS are in the midst of ironing out details on their permits, noted Garrison.
With a retail space of 23,204 square feet, Sprouts will feature a variety of natural and organic foods, a full-service deli and meat department, a sushi bar, and other hallmark offerings typical of the brand.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 6:45 a.m. on June 27, with doors officially open 15 minutes later. The first 200 in-store shoppers will receive a free reusable bag filled with products, while the first 400 customers will receive a free rose.
According to Garrison, Sprouts signed a 15-year lease for the location.
The city and Sierra Pacific Properties have been in talks with Sprouts for several years to entice the retailer to open a store in Pittsburg.
“When we presented this location to them, they were very interested,” said Garrison. “Our parent company, Seeno Homes, has built hundreds of homes in the area and continues to build more homes, so there is a strong demand to have a grocery store to serve the community.”
There may be one more grocer on the way to occupy Food Source at Highland Square, which closed permanently in 2019. Garrison said his company has signed a lease with a grocery store and is working on finalizing the details.
“We should be able to make an announcement soon,” he said.
Pittsburg Mayor Jelani Killings said the opening of Sprouts is a significant step forward for the city.
“It brings fresh, healthy food options to an area of town that has lacked access and also spurs development for much-needed commercial services for residents in the San Marco area,” said Killings.
He noted that the investment not only improves the quality of life for residents but also strengthens the local economy and supports Pittsburg’s broader efforts to build a healthier and more vibrant city.
