WWE again wielded the axe with a new swathe of talent releases last week and focus is already on what’s next for those heading for the door.
Prior to Friday’s episode of SmackDown, several major stars were reportedly let go from the world’s biggest wrestling company.
Former world champion Braun Strowman was among the names to make way as his latest stint with WWE came to an end, while former UFC star and close ally to Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler, also looks to be moving on.
Among the other big hitters looking for fresh opportunities include tag team specialists Dakota Kai, Kayden Carter and Katana Chance as WWE continues with its chilling post-WrestleMania tradition of unloading performers.
Baszler’s departure is perhaps among the biggest surprises.
A two-time former NXT Women’s Champion and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion – alongside Rousey – the fighter was a high-profile figure, as was Strowman, who downed Goldberg to become Universal Champion at WrestleMania in 2020.
The cuts don’t appear to be confined to WWE’s ‘main roster’ – the rosters of Monday Night Raw and SmackDown.
Developmental division NXT has also been given a shake-up, with Gigi Dolin, Riley Osborne, Eddy Thorpe, Jakara Jackson, Oro Mensah, Javier Bernal all thought to be leaving, while Cora Jade has also appeared to confirm her own departure on social media.
British tag team trio Gallus are also readying themselves for a new adventure outside of WWE, too.
Joe and Mark Coffey, along with Wolfgang, have been a staple part of the NXT scene since their debut in NXT UK in 2018.
Mark and Wolfgang held both the NXT UK and NXT Tag Team Championships as the Scottish trio established themselves under the WWE umbrella having already carved out significant careers on the independent scenes.
Though the bustling brutes had not been able to break through to the main roster to make a sustained splash there, their value was clearly evident internally – they were given the task of helping Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson prepare for his in-ring return at WrestleMania in 2024.
Braun Strowman is looking for his next challenge after leaving WWEWWEThe People’s Champion had gone the better part of decade without working a match when he joined forces with Roman Reigns in the main event to face Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.
Rock managed a full part in a 45-minute epic, too – thanks at least in part to the contributions of Gallus, who put him through a rigorous routine, as NXT chief Shawn Michaels explained to talkSPORT prior to the event.
Discussing how the training camp came together, the icon said: “He [Rock] needed some folks to train with, and obviously we’re talking about three guys who know what they’re doing, been around the block – understand every aspect of the business.
“You can have somebody out there younger to just fly around but you need guys that are mature, professional, who can adjust in everything to what Rock wants.
“Obviously I’m partial with those guys, they’re fantastic guys but they’re so professional – they’re very dependable.”
The Rock famously took a photo performing Gallus’ famous in-ring pose to mark the occasion, too and, while the trio are now moving on from WWE just over a year after such a high-profile occasion, their stock is likely to be high.
X/triplehThe ‘finger point’ photo has become a new-age accomplishment for some WWE stars[/caption] The trio of Gallus features the Coffey brothers Joe and Mark alongside WolfgangWWEThey depart with quite the CV, even if there is one notable omission, by their own admission.
In a post on X, Mark Coffey lamented never getting the ‘finger point photo’ in WWE – reference to Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque’s trademark of standing for a photo with talent after a prominent moment such as a title win.
Levesque’s ‘finger point’ snap with John Cena following Cena’s title win at WrestleMania 41 alone garnered 2.5 million views on X, but Coffey is adamant he has something more valuable.
Posting celebratory images of his Gallus teammates and other NXT stars with the Heritage Cup – which he held – he fired a firm apparent response to his WWE exit.
“I won three titles in this company, never got the finger point picture,” he wrote.
“Got these though, and they’re so much more important.”

Joe, meanwhile, was similarly defiant in a post of his own, saying: “If you were in the ring with us. You know. If you were in a locker room with us. You know.
“Thank you [WWE and NXT]. Iron don’t break See you’s soon. Statement and information coming soon.”
WWE have long since refrained from publicly acknowledging talent releases, so the exits of Gallus, Strowman, Baszler and other performers will all go somewhat under the radar.
