Punjab Kings registered a thumping win over Lucknow Super Giants as they won the 54th Match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 by 37 runs. Asked to bat, the hosts had a poor start to their innings as in-form batter Priyansh Arya got out early. After that, Prabhsimran Singh (91) took charge and got some crucial runs for his team in the powerplay.
Josh Inglis (30) supported him well in the powerplay as the duo added 48 runs for the second wicket. Skipper Shreyas Iyer (45) also came up with the vital as he and Prabhsimran stitched 78 runs together to put pressure on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
In the end, Shashank Singh (33*) played a brutal hand that powered Punjab Kings to a total of 236 for five.
In the chase, Lucknow Super Giants had a forgettable start as Punjab fast bowler Arshdeep Singh was all over the opposition. He picked three wickets in a flash while others chipped in as well, and Lucknow were left tottering at 73 for five.
Ayush Badoni (74) and Abdul Samad (45) led the rescue charge and brought their team back into the game with their 81-run stand. After Samad got out, Badoni kept trying hard but couldn't take his team home as Punjab Kings restricted LSG to 199 for seven to win the game by 37 runs.
Here's how the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) can qualify for IPL 2025 playoffs
Lucknow Super Giants, with the loss against Punjab, faced their 6th loss in the Indian Premier League 2025. This now takes them to the 7th spot on the points table with 5 wins and 6 losses under their belt. They also have 10 points from the 11 games.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) now have just three games remaining in the IPL 2025. To reach the 16-point mark, they now need to win all three games. They will still be in contention if they win two games, but there won't be any guarantee.
Then, their qualification will be dependent on the NRR as well as how other results pan out in the league. As 14 points won't ensure them a place in the playoffs of the tournament.
The next three matches of the Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025
