As we look forward to May, the final chapter of this school year is already taking shape. In just a few short weeks, we’ll gather for graduations, promotions, final performances, and proud farewells. But before we turn the final page, this moment offers a powerful vantage point – a chance to pause, reflect, and appreciate the EPIC journey we’ve traveled together.
Our theme this year has been just that: Education is an EPIC Journey – a thirteen-year voyage that begins when a child first steps into a kindergarten classroom, and ends with a young adult ready to meet the world. It’s a journey of academic growth, yes – but also of emotional, physical, and social development. It’s where children learn to think, speak, solve, create, connect, and ultimately take flight.
And this year, what a journey it’s been!
We’ve celebrated more than 350 students of the month – each a bright spark of character and accomplishment. We’ve honored more than 30 remarkable employees, whose daily dedication shapes the experiences that students carry for a lifetime. A middle school teacher of the year. State finalists in science, music, speech, and athletics. Performances that stirred our hearts. Classrooms that inspired wonder. Teams that made us cheer – and learn the beauty of perseverance.
Through it all, we’ve kept our compass set on the six strategic priorities that guide our work:
High-Quality Initial Instruction: The cornerstone of every learning day and launchpad for curiosity and confidence.
Multilingual Learner Success: Honoring language and embracing potential.
Targeted Professional Learning: Because growing our practice is how we grow student success.
Safe & Healthy Culture: A classroom, a hallway, an office – each a place where students feel seen, safe, and supported.
Student & Staff Connections: Relationships that spark belonging and the powerful magic of knowing someone believes in you.
Collaborative Partnerships: Parents, families, community members – you’re not just part of the audience. You’re co-authors of this EPIC story.
Thanks to a districtwide focus on attendance – and the enthusiastic support of families and students – we’ve discovered something powerful: our students like coming to school. They want to be here. They want to belong, to grow, to be part of something bigger than themselves.
As we look ahead to May’s celebrations, we invite you to take a moment with us to reflect on this shared path – on the people, priorities, and possibilities that have shaped the year. The journey isn’t over yet, but the view from here? It’s pretty extraordinary.
