U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans has received an endorsement for reelection from President Donald Trump, though it is a toss-up whether the president’s endorsement could help or hinder Evans’ plans to maintain what is being viewed as Colorado’s most competitive seat come midterms.
On Monday, Trump provided his “complete and total endorsement” of Evans, who is currently in his first term as the U.S. Representative of the 8th Congressional District, which encompasses most of the eastern side of Interstate 25 from Thornton to Greeley.
“Congressman Gabe Evans is an America first patriot who is doing a fantastic job representing Colorado’s 8th Congressional District,” Trump said in a post on the Truth Social site. “A decorated Army Helicopter Pilot and former Police Officer, Gabe has served our Nation with Great Honor and Distinction. In Congress, he is fighting to secure the border, champion American energy, defend the Second Amendment, and support our brave military, veterans, and law enforcement. Gabe Evans has my complete and total endorsement for re-election — He will not let you down!”
Evans won his seat in the hotly contested district by just 2,596 votes over Democrat Yadira Caraveo, who was also elected by a slim margin in 2022. Caraveo, who has filed to run for the seat again, is attempting to use Evans’ ties with Trump against him.
“Gabe Evans has already shown that he will always put Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and his MAGA backers in Washington first,” Caraveo said in her campaign announcement. “Now more than ever, Coloradans need a leader who will stand up for them and do the right thing.”
Democratic State Rep. Manny Rutinel, who’s also running for Evans’ seat in 2026, also took aim at Evans for the endorsement.
“Trump’s tariffs and economic chaos have crushed hardworking families in Colorado, and Gabe Evans has broken his promises to the people of our District — siding with Trump and his billionaire buddies instead of us,” Rutinel said on social media.
According to recent approval ratings released on Tuesday by Marist Poll, a survey research center at Marist University that regularly measures public opinion at the local, state, and national levels, 42% of Americans approve of Trump’s performance in his first 100 days in office. According to Gallup, a global analytics firm, Trump’s approval is lower than that of any president’s first 100 days since 1953.
Evans welcomed Trump’s endorsement, reiterating his commitment to making Colorado safer through stronger immigration policy.
“Thank you Mr. President,” Evans said on X. “I am dialed in on making sure our community is free of criminal illegal immigrant gangs and making Colorado a safer place to live, work, and raise a family. Proud to be fighting for #CO08 in Congress.”
