‘Harmonize Your Mind’ with North Range’s Mental Health Month events

North Range Behavioral Health will host local events throughout May in honor of Mental Health Month.

This year, the observance will recognize music’s impact on health during the month dedicated to mental health and promoting wellbeing, according to a North Range news release.

    North Range invites the community to “Harmonize Your Mind” at Mental Health Month events in Weld County.

    “We have all listened to a song that just made our day better,” the North Range release said. “The lyrics or beat of a track has the power to make us feel happy, motivated, energized or relaxed. The endless magic of music is special in that way: a shared, universal language that connects us to each other.”

    The events include:

    Mental Health 101 for Teens

    The High Plains Library District invites teens to learn about the “what, why and how” of taking care of mental health, according to the release.

    Mental Health 101 will take place from 5-6 p.m. Monday, May 5 at the Centennial Park Library, 2227 23rd Ave., Greeley. To register, go to highplains.libcal.com/event/14391356.

    Mindful Music

    The High Plains Library District and North Range have partnered up to present “Mindful Music,” showcasing how music can be a tool for enhancing everyday life.

    Anyone 18 and older can attend the event to explore different instruments hands-on while experiencing the power of music on “mental, physical, and social wellbeing,” the release said.

    Mindful Music will take place from 5-6 p.m. Wednesday, May 7 at the LINC Library Innovation Center, 501 8th Ave., Greeley. To register, go to highplains.libcal.com/event/14021038.

    Sound Bowl Meditation

    Another High Plains Library District event will introduce participants to the benefits of sound meditation, which include “reducing stress and anxiety, lowering anger and blood pressure, improving circulation and blood flow, helping with pain relief, and promoting improved well-being,” the release said.

    The event will take place from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 14 at the LINC Library Innovation Center in Greeley.

    Participants should bring their own yoga mat, pillow and blanket. The library will have chairs available for those who prefer to sit when they meditate.

    Frontier House 13th Annual Breakfast

    The Frontier House invites the community to a morning of inspirational stories on how the Greeley clubhouse has changed the lives of those living with mental illness. The format of clubhouses promotes “dignity, self-respect, and success for persons with mental illness by connecting members to the community and supporting members in achieving their full potential,” according to the release.

    The 13th annual breakfast will take place from 7:30-9 a.m. Wednesday, May 14 at the DoubleTree by Hilton at Lincoln Park, 919 7th St., Greeley.

    A Human Experience: Dylan Fixmer’s Concerto for Electric Cello

    North Range will partner with the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra to put on composer Dylan Fixmer’s “Concerto for Electric Cello.” The musical experience “will bring awareness to and help destigmatize depression while creating hope, solidarity and community,” the release shared.

    A Human Experience, utilizing solo electric cello and symphony orchestra, follows Becky’s journey of living and healing with depression. North Range commissioned the third movement of the work, entitled “III: Hope, Out of the Darkness.”

    Heartbeat: Suicide Loss Survivor Group

    Suicide Education and Support Services’ Heartbeat group invites current and new members to a creative and reflective experience using music and art as a form of healing.

    Self-Care for the Real World

    The Centennial Park Library will host “Self-Care for the Real World” to teach people practical self-care and stress management techniques to maintain wellness. People can attend this event from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 20 at the library.

    Be Mindful, It Matters: Mental Health Exhibit

    The Centennial Area Health Education Center will present its Be Mindful exhibit, sponsored by North Range, at two locations throughout May. The mobile, interactive exhibit breaks down mental health stigma by sparking conversations through facts and experiences of fellow Coloradans, according to the release.

    People can catch the exhibit until May 15 at the LINC Library and from May 15-21 at the Union Colony Civic Center.

    Weld Your Mettle Running Festival

    Weld Your Mettle Running Festival, hosted by the run.Windsor Race Series and sponsored by North Range, has running events for all levels. People can run solo or with a relay team, choosing between a 7k run, ruck or completing the four-mile out-and-back route as many times as they can in the three, six, nine, 12-, 24- or 48-hour events.

    The Weld Your Mettle Running Festival will have more than just running opportunities, offering saunas, cold plunges, a running documentary, food and swag.

    Mindfulness IRL for teens

    Teens can attend the event that educates on how to incorporate mindfulness into their everyday lives from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 27 at the LINC Library Innovation Center.

    Question, Persuade, Refer

    Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR), a nationally recognized certification-based course, provides basic-level suicide prevention information, outreach and education, the release said. The “innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention strategies” teach how to ask for and give help, as well as where to find referral information.

    People can learn the “emergency first aid mental health intervention,” increasing postive outcomes among suicidal persons, by attending the course from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 28 at the Centennial Park Library.
