With only five teams left on The Amazing Race 37, any small mistake could be the difference between a first-place finish and your race for the million dollars ending in an instant. And we saw that firsthand as the pairs traveled to Naples. A day of confusing Italian streets, grocery shopping and pizza making left one team lost in the sauce. This week's "surprise" for the racers came in the episode's final moments. Host Phil Keoghan informed the last-place team that it was a non-elimination leg, meaning they were still in the race. While the concept of a non-elimination leg has been part of the DNA of The Amazing Race since the beginning, the show chose to eliminate them starting in Season 34. While the show has had teams not go home in episodes before by broadcasting one leg across multiple weeks, this is the first time since Season 33 we have seen a proper non-elimination leg.
Which teams finished at the top of The Amazing Race 37 Week 9 tonight?
Jonathan and AnaTowns were looking for a win, having last picked up a victory when they used their Express Pass. But the married couple had a perfect day in Naples, as they each got to flex muscles from their past and passions to get their third first-place finish. Brett Hamby and Mark Romain stayed at the top of the pack, finishing in second. And, while Alyssa and Josiah Borden bounced from the top to the bottom of the pack the entire leg, they landed comfortably in third place.

Carson McCalley and Jack Dodge were quite literally all over the place. While the friends got lost on the way to the Detour, they completed in first place. But Carson got as tied up as a mozzarella treccia as he struggled to make pizza in the Roadblock, sending them firmly to the back of the pack. But they were never in any danger of going home, as Han and Holden Nguyen were in the last place spot for pretty much the entire leg. The two arrived to the Detour in last place, then got twisted up to widen the gap even further. Despite the situation, the two remained hopeful of a saving grace to keep them in the race. And, even though they never caught up, they found one in their non-elimination surprise.
