CAIRO, April 28 (MENA) – Chief Executive Officer of the Egyptian Space Agency (EPA) participated in a meeting of the heads of space agencies of the BRICS countries in Brazil, which holds the bloc’s presidency this year’s session.
The meeting agenda featured a number of working sessions to discuss an initiative to build up a satellite constellation to support sustainable development efforts based on the goals of the 2025 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 30) Brazil will host in November, according to a statement by the EPA on Monday.
Participants also reviewed the mechanisms necessary for bridging technological gaps between member space agencies, as well as prospects of promoting human resource development in the space industry.
The event agenda also included bilateral meetings between participating delegations, and a visit to Brazil’s Space Operations Center (COPE).
The meeting, which runs from April 27 to 29, reaffirms BRICS countries’ commitment to enhancing space cooperation and aligning efforts to address global challenges and achieve sustainable development goals.
BRICS is an interstate association comprised of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. In January 2024, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, and the UAE joined the bloc. (MENA)
