Fresh from hosting this year’s Bafta Awards, David Tennant is taking on a rather different role as the “creator” in a new game show.
The Scottish actor is inviting the country’s most brilliant minds to compete in the ultimate television challenge – the Genius Game.
Based on a show from South Korea, it requires not only intellectual ability to win the game, but also the capacity to outwit other competitors.
The eight-part series premieres on ITV on Wednesday 30 April at 9pm and will also be available to stream on ITVX.
Genius Game is a reality game show for strategically minded players, which requires them to pull together to be successful but also pits them against each other to find one winner.
Chosen not just for their intellectual prowess but also their social IQ, the contestants will participate in a host of games.
The show’s 11 players include a crime writer, a GP, an entrepreneur, a DJ, a forensic scientist, a university professor and a comedian.
The games are designed to test their intellectual acumen while encouraging the contestants to carefully and creatively outfox their opponents to get their hands on the cash prize.

In the first episode’s main match, the players will face a “gold heist” in which they must work together to stay in the game.
If they win, they will receive a token of life – and get to choose a player to save alongside themselves.
The losing player will go head-to-head in a death match, choosing their opponent from the remaining players.
Whoever loses the death match will be eliminated from the competition.
What is the prize on Genius Game?
Up to £50,000 is available in the prize fund.
Players have to earn “garnets”, which are worth £1,000 each, during the main matches and challenges each week.
They go into the game fund, adding up after each episodes, while the number of players still in the game depletes.
The winner will take home the total prize fund accumulated.
