AARON RODGERS is edging closer to joining up with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The four-time NFL MVP left the New York Jets in February but has yet to join a new team.
Rodgers has kept his cards close to his chest after unexpectedly becoming a free agent.
The 41-year-old met with the Steelers last month.
And owner Art Rooney II confirmed on Friday the star QB “does want to come” to the franchise.
“We’re still kind of getting the same signals that we’ve been getting recently,” Rooney told Steelers Nation Radio.
“He does want to come here, so I do think we may get word soon.”
The Steelers added a quarterback on Day 3 of the NFL Draft earlier this week.
Pittsburgh selected Ohio State QB Will Howard with the No. 185 overall pick.
Howard had a 44-start college career but is expected to be behind Rodgers and Mason Rudolph in the depth chart during his rookie year.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin spoke on the Rodgers situation after drafting Howard .
Tomlin claimed the club has had “good conversations” with the former Green Bay star.
“[Rodgers is] certainly a possibility but, you know, I’m not gonna forecast the if’s and the when’s regarding not only him but any potential free agent,” Tomlin told NFL Network’s Rich Eisen.
“Just rest assured we’ve had really productive talks with him.
“I’ve enjoyed having really productive talks with him and getting to know him.”
Earlier this month, Rodgers opened up on his release from the Jets after two disappointing seasons.

He revealed he had flown across the country to meet with new head coach Aaron Glenn – only to be cut.
“I’ve flown across the country and 20 seconds in, he goes and he leans to the edge of his seat and says, ‘So you want to play football?’” Rodgers told The Pat McAfee Show.
“And I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m interested.’
“And he was like, ‘We’re going in a different direction at quarterback.’
“I was kind of shocked. Not shocked because I didn’t think it was a possibility.
“But shocked because I just flew across the country and you could’ve just told me this over the phone.”
