Rece Davis has become an icon at ESPN over the past 3 decades, and fans of his would be happy to know that he’ll be sticking around at ESPN for a while longer.
One of the many things viewers love about Davis is his consistency. There’s also his professionalism, his humor and his ability to be in the moment and stay even keeled. Davis is a rock, and he’s known to never lose his temper or even raise his voice much.
Well, consider all that a thing of the past, as of Saturday afternoon. That’s when Davis unofficially told NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper to, well, stand down during ESPN’s Day 3 draft coverage from Green Bay. Kiper, yet again, was up in arms about the continued draft saga of Shedeur Sanders and how the former Colorado star quarterback once destined for the first round had dropped all the way to the fifth round.
Sanders was finally taken with the No. 144 overall pick by the Cleveland Browns, so you would that Kiper could take a breath after all the ranting he’s done since Thursday about Sanders’s draft fall.
Nope.
Kiper was still ranting and raving about the NFL dropping the ball on Sanders and how the NFL has been terrible forever at evaluating quarterbacks. Davis finally had enough.
“Yelling at the NFL about it is not productive,” said Davis, for once raising that steady voice of his toward Kiper.

Kiper unhinged. Can’t recall seeing Rece Davis getting worked up like this ? pic.twitter.com/jGeBDB3aB8

— Garrett Searight (@GarrettSearight) April 26, 2025Rece Davis trying to be rational with Mel Kiper regarding Shedeur Sanders is hilariously entertaining
— Justin Hokanson (@_JHokanson) April 26, 2025I genuinely don’t know if ESPN can put Mel Kiper Jr. on TV again next year. The temper tantrum he’s thrown the last three days has been beyond unprofessional and good on Rece Davis for putting his foot down.
— Jamey Vinnick (@jameyvinnick9) April 26, 2025The way @MelKiperESPN is behaving right now is absolutely embarrassing.@LRiddickESPN and @ReceDavis are being absolute pros and Kiper is acting like a petulant, self-important blowhard.
