And breathe.
Joe Cullen turned in one of the all-time legs of darts but for all the wrong reasons in his 6-2 win over Thibaut Tricole in the second round at the Austrian Darts Open.
Tricole took the opening leg but it was one-way traffic from that moment onwards in favour of ‘The Rockstar’ as he raced out to a 4-1 lead.
But it was in the sixth leg when the contest came to a grinding and hilarious halt.
After 12 darts, Cullen was on a finish as he needed just 149.
He scored 101 on his next visit to require 48 for a finish but could only muster 16 at the following attempt.
Cullen continued to misfire and eventually whittled down his score to 2, meaning double 1 was required.
Yet Cullen could not get himself out of the madhouse, producing miss after miss to leave the crowd in Graz with their hands on their head.
Tricole was equally culpable for prolonging the woes as he too could not pin double 1.
But the 35-year-old eventually put fans – and himself – out of their misery when he pinned double 1 with his 40th dart of the leg.
The crowd erupted in cheers as Cullen celebrated with his arms outstretched in a hilarious moment.
“That is a magnificent leg of darts, for all the wrong reasons,” a commentator said.
@OfficialPDC - XFew would have been more relieved than Cullen when he pinned double 1[/caption]The darts community on social media were also quick to poke fun at the astonishingly long leg.
One account wrote: “One of the worst legs in Euro Tour history.”
Another said: “Joe Cullen winning a 40 dart leg is not what you expect to see.”
At least Cullen saw the funny side of it all, as he reposted a clip of his 40-dart leg on X with the caption: “I should report this tweet.”
Tricole pulled one leg back to make it 5-2, but Cullen erased all hope of a comeback when he won the eighth leg to wrap up victory.
It was far from a classic as Cullen averaged only 77.13 while Tricole mustered 70.23, with the pair combining for a solitary maximum throughout the entire match.
GettyCullen couldn’t play much worse than he did in the sixth leg[/caption]Unsurprisingly the checkout percentages for both men made for grim reading.
Cullen converted just six of his 34 checkout attempts (17.6 per cent) and Tricole only twice from 28 efforts (7.1 per cent).
‘The Rockstar’ will now face either Damon Heta or Karel Sedlacek in the third round.
