NEW York Knicks and Detroit Pistons fans were worried about the iconic Walt Frazier’s health after he didn’t work the broadcast on the two teams’ playoff game.
Frazier was previously on the call for the Knicks‘ broadcast of Games 1 and 2 of the NBA Playoff series against the Detroit Pistons from New York.
Knicks fans were ready to tune in to MSG for their Thursday night playoff game in Detroit.
However, they were stunned to see the 80-year-old Frazier’s absence.
During the third quarter, play-by-play commentator Mike Breen shared that his longtime broadcast partner was dealing with an illness.
“I want to send our best wishes to our partner and colleague,” Breen said.
“Clyde’s fine, his voice has been giving him problems.
“He’s been feeling a little under the weather.
“And rather than making the trip to Detroit… Clyde will be back for Game 5.
“Get well, Clyde. Don’t talk until Tuesday.”
Alan Haun took over for Frazer as the Knicks went on to claim the 118-116 win over the Pistons.
Nonetheless, Knicks and Pistons expressed their concerns for Frazier’s health.
“I feel bad for Clyde,” one wrote.
“Hope Clyde is okay,” a second said.
“I missed Frazier. Wish him luck,” a third commented.
Knicks fans were able to watch their favorite team on their local network.
GettyFrazier has been a broadcaster for the Knicks since 1987[/caption]The reason? Most first-round playoff contests are simulcast on local networks.
However, that will change next season due to the NBA’s new media deal with ESPN, NBC, and Amazon.
The Knicks-Pistons Game 4 will only be available on ABC, however.
Frazier will be eligible to work Game 5 when it heads back to New York on Tuesday night.
