Mountain Dew is preparing to drop a previously-teased flavor that initially had fans super hyped for its release, but after more specific details of the drop were revealed, many loyalists of the soda brand are walking back their excitement.
In a new Instagram post shared on Thursday, July 3, trusted food blog Snackolator updated foodies about the brand's upcoming collab with a nostalgic and iconic candy brand: Trolli x Mountain Dew Cherry-Lemon flavor.
The insider didn't include any information on a specific date the product may be on store shelves, only teasing that it's "coming soon" (possibly September) in 20 oz. and 12-pack options—but it was one particular detail that proved to be a major let-down for an overwhelmingly large percent of commenters: it's reportedly only coming in a Zero-sugar version.

"I don't know if you're ready for this one - the Trolli x Mountain Dew collab is almost here and it looks amazing! Coming soon is a new Mountain Dew that is Cherry Lemon Trolli flavored in zero sugar. This will be available in both 12pks of cans and 20oz bottles and is going to replace VooDoo this year," the caption read.
The blogger further promised, "I'll update once this hits store shelves - it's scheduled for September but hopefully it starts showing up earlier!"

"WHY JUST ZERO SUGAR STOP THIS NONSENSE MTN DEW WE DONT WANT JUST ZERO SUGAR," one scream-wrote, clearly adamant about getting their point across.
"Bummer it’s only in ZS. Come on @mountaindew we need a sugar version too!!" another agreed, with a third bluntly inquiring, "Zero sugar only. Who made such a stupid decision?"
"All these soda companies need to chill with these zero sugar products. We want to taste THAT drink with sugar in it @mountaindew@trolli_usa," someone else passionately doubled down.
More displeased commenters expressed things like, "zero sugar sucksssss," "Sucks it’s not regular," "I'm one that prefers zero, BUT would've been nice had it been REAL SUGAR," "The fact that it's zero sugar makes it a skip for me and makes me question why only makes a zero sugar version of any soda seems like a waste of production," and "Only zero sugar?
